Apple picking + San Diego

This weekend while I was visiting my sister and her little family in San Diego, we went apple picking! I have been wanting to go this fall and am so glad we did. Gosh I just love fall.

My nephews were pretty excited to pick out pumpkins, and even more excited to fill our bag with apples. We didn't borrow an apple picking stick, and when we decided to, they were all gone of course. So we used kids and a 6'2" man instead. It was more fun that anyway. We all stood on the ground as my brother-in-law held up each little boy to stretch his little arms to grab the perfect apples we were pointing at. What a sight it was.

I am so happy that I was able to take a mid-term break to visit my family for the weekend. It is just so nice to get away and I miss them all the time.

Well, now that I'm home, here's to another full week of schoollwork and hopefully some cozy fall things!

Take me away.

I am in San Diego this weekend!

I love that it is only an hour and fifteen minute plane ride. I fell asleep before we even took off and woke up with only about 25 minutes to eat some peanuts and listen to music before we landed. What a nice way to sneak in an afternoon nap.

I am so happy to be here. I have missed my family dearly. As soon as I got out of the car at my sister's house, I heard my nephew immediately ask my brother-in-law where Aunt Jess was. So cute :) I was greeted with gifts of oragami shapes and envelopes that my other nephew worked so hard on just for me.

It is amazing how much my nephews grow and all of the new things they are doing the next time I see them. My oldest nephew, Caleb, read me a story tonight! And taught me how to make oragami things. Since when did he get so old?!

I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend of just hanging out and doing kid stuff.
Sometimes it is just good to get away.

It actually felt like fall this weekend! I know I have been talking about this for a while now, but goodness, I have just been continually tricked! Friday and Saturday were fall-like, and even Sunday in San Francisco, but this week is warm again! I think I may need to go to Seattle or Portland or something like that. Isn't it supposed to always be cold there?
Then of course, when I go to San Diego on Thursday for a long weekend, it is going to be in the mid 80's the entire time. The mid 80's! Ship me off to Antarctica now, won't you?

Nonetheless, I got to enjoy the perfect pumpkin patch outfit in my wishful fall mood on Saturday while picking out some  pretty cool pumpkins. Well, I should probably go start packing a suitcase full of the summer clothes that I am beyond tired of. Excuse me while I weep a little inside.

This world is not my home.

This is just so brilliant it should be in a museum. Said no one ever.

Yesterday we spend the afternoon at the de Young, an art museum in Golden Gate Park. For my photography class I had to see an exhibit and write a report about it, and well it is due Thursday so of course I waited until the last possible day to see one. But moving on, I really like the de Young. The museum itself is pretty cool and I love the viewing tower they have, which takes you up about 10 floors to a panoramic viewing room. You can see the entire city. It's simply breathtaking. If you're ever in Golden Gate Park, do it. I would pay to get into the museum just to spend time up there drawing.

I loved the photography exhibit, but I was not very interested in the ancient tribal art they had or the paintings. Also, I think it stinks that they have exhibits you have to pay extra to get into! But nonetheless, the de Young is a great place to poke around, spend some time in the viewing tower, and even have some lunch in their cute café.

I really should start exploring more of the museums while I still live here. I have been to the MoMA several times and the de Young twice, but there are still many more museums to check out!
Plus, Golden Gate Park is just glorious on a Sunday afternoon.

Pumpkins are fun.

As you could probably guess, we went to the pumpkin patch yesterday! I haven't been to one in such a long time. We got up early to beat the traffic since this area has tons of pumpkin patches and the roads are always packed every weekend in October.
Marly thoroughly enjoyed himself and passed out as soon as we started driving home. After about the gazilionth photo, he did not appreciate being posed with pumpkins, hay bales, or anything of the like.
What a trooper, that one is.

We got a bunch of pumpkins and I am excited to carve a few and decorate the house with them. But one thing that I didn't really realize: pumpkin patches are expensive. Gosh. They're just pumpkins...
Later that afternoon, I went to the grocery store and quickly realized that I had been ripped off.
We definitely didn't buy all the pumpkins we had impulsively added to our wagon.

But, I guess every few years it's alright to splurge on things like this, right?

This coming week is going to be pretty full with school, work, my dad going on vacation, tests, papers to write, and leaving for San Diego! I just want to fast forward through a few days until I am on the plane, leaving my every-day life behind for the weekend.

5 things I'd rather be doing.

Running through these lush hills of Ireland
Driving through snowy mountains with the heat on.
Loving on my pup.
Swimming with manatees.
Hanging out in a coffee shop.

I am so happy for the weekend! I am ready to go to the pumpkin patch and the museum, and to spend some time with my puppy. And study unfortunately. But hopefully I can find a cute coffee shop and cross a few things off this list?

Happy Friday :)
P.S. On The Adventure inspired me to do a post like this. I always love the things she would rather be doing! :)
