Where I'd Rather Be: Hume Lake Winter Camp

Hello friends. It is a winter Friday, which means high schoolers all over California and its neighbors are gathering at their churches, getting ready to board vans and buses for a fun-filled weekend at Hume Lake Christian Camps. And I am jealous. And excited for those little buggers.
You see, I am not in high school anymore. Which means that this is the first winter in 3 years that I won't be joining those lucky high schoolers on buses and vans. Which makes me sad.

For those of you who don't know about Hume Lake, Hume is a Christian camp that is dedicated to making and shaping the lives of students, so that they will become followers and believers of Christ and grow in their relationship with Him. And they do lots of fun stuff.
I have gone to winter camp for the past three winters and to summer camp for two summers. I can honestly say that it was one of the best parts of high school. I lived to go to Hume whenever I could. It is a place filled with loving people, creativity, and crazy fun things to do, like tubing, ice skating, paintballing, and making a cardboard boxsled for the Boxsled Blitz. Just great stuff.
But in addition to the activities, it is a place to simply retreat and enjoy quiet times. I'm completely down for that. Though I understand that all good things must come to an end and that it's time to move on in life, I can't help but feel weird that I won't be there this winter. I do, however, feel that Hume and I are not done. We will be united again one day. Perhaps I will work there one summer, apply for their Joshua Wilderness Institute, or go as a counselor with a youth group some day. I'm not sure. But this place that gave me so much and helped shape me and I are far from finished.

So, if you happen to be one of those high schoolers heading to Hume or any camp for the weekend, I wish you a wonderful time! And go tubing for me :)
