Outfit // Red Lipped Girl

I've had this post sitting in my drafts for a week now and I am so happy to finally publish it! I am quite happy with how these turned out and am impressed by how much Dai's outfit photographing skills have improved. And by how we have been getting along much better during shoots!
I have been thinking about personal style more lately and have decided on a few things that make up my ideal outfit: easiness, simple elegance, and versatility. I prefer neutrals with added pops of color. Whites, blacks, and blues are my best friends. I like things that are classical with a touch of modernity.
While it is nice to stick to classic looks and neutral colors, I also want to have an element of boldness in my style. I have realized that the most realistic and comfortable way for me to achieve this is through accessories and makeup, starting with a red lip!
Over the past year or so, I have been wearing a red lip more and more, but don't always feel confident enough to do so. I think it is pretty, but sometimes I am just Oh no, what if I am sticking out too much? I've been learning to just go with it, mostly because it is good for me to take chances and be bold. If you can't take risks with lipstick, what else are you stopping yourself from taking risks on?

I have realized that taking risks and being bold has been popping up quite often in my life lately, not only in dilemmas about style. First of all, I'm taking a huge financial leap and going to Japan. Like really. Wow. Also, I think I'm being bold by making the last minute decision to go to Washington DC next week, even though it is expensive and will likely be a tough trip. Lastly, I would say that I have been more bold and true to myself with this blog lately. I have been very proud of that and am excited to see how I & this space will continue to grow.

I also see myself being bold in many other areas of life like when/where/how I decide to finish college, perhaps starting my own business as a career path, spending time traveling, and maybe even living abroad one day.

For today, though, I think I will start with lipstick.

My goodness you're adorable. I wish my boyfriend knew how to do anything with a camera.

You've trained him well! P.S. I have a sample of red lipstick gathering dust in my makeup bag waiting for the "right" time to be worn. But who knows, maybe I'll decide to wear it just because :)

Agh, I wish I could train my boyfriend to take my photos - way to go! And I love the red lip. As someone who can't pull it off, I'm envious!

I love everything about this outfit! The chambray, the RED LIP!! (my fave, can you tell?), the skirt, the shoes and the super cute detailing on the tights. I literally want one of each of those things in my closet! I also recruit my BF to take my outfit pictures when possible. So much better than using a tripod once they get the hang of it!

One of my favorite outfits that you've posted. That bag is absolutely to die for!! What kind of lipstick is that? It's beautiful!!
And what's the trick to training your man to take outfit photos?? Seth 1) fusses when I ask him because we always end up fighting and 2) can't take a focused photo since the autofocus doesn't work with my 50mm (there may have been an incident where my camera met my sidewalk and my lens turned into Humpty Dumpty but was able to be put back together again). We'll have to chat about that...lol

I think it is the best to wear it just because :) I feel like I would always be waiting otherwise!

Awww thanks! I know, not a lot of girls are as lucky, but we met in a photography class so I kind of lucked out ;)

Haha thanks! I think it has worked out since we met in a photography class :) I think you could pull off a red lip!!

You look so great in this outfit and these pictures!

dude. You look hot. I'm telling you, you pull of that red lip like none other.

And seriously, how did you get the boyfriend to do this so well. I am starting to think that my husband is absolutely hopeless cause. These photos are so well done, I am in shock. Better than something I could take, I feel like. WOW.

He is a keeper - hold on tight.

Thank you so much! It is nice to know I don't look ridiculous in red lipstick haha sometimes I feel too bold in it.

Girl, it has been a lot of practice... I'm telling you though, that 3-word rule works so well! I just do my thing, he snaps away, and then every once in a while I tell him something new to focus on. I don't know, but I think we have found our groove.

Oh, I'm definitely holding on to him.

Thanks so much! It was a fun shoot :)

Thanks Abby! The lipstick is Ulta brand and is #219 called "Sangria." I love it because it is just dark enough to not be a bright, bright red, but still has a lot of depth to it. Maybe I am being to philisophical about lipstick. Anyway, Ulta brand. #219. Sangria.
I don't know if there is a trick to training a guy to take outfit photos! I think it definitely helps that Dai and I met in a photography class, so it is something we both love and have experience with. That helps, but certainly doesn't make him want to take them haha I often have to beg... But I guess all I can really say is PRACTICE! I think Dai is just starting to understand all the elements I try to have in outfit photos, which makes things go more quickly and effortlessly. That is so awful about your lens!! :(

Thanks girl! Boyfriends are definitely way better than tripods! They don't come without their headaches too sometimes though ;)
