Welcome, friends! While I am off in Japan, I have collected a lovely team of bloggers to share a variety of guest posts about travel, fashion, and everything in between! I will be back from my adventuring soon, but in the mean time please enjoy these wonderful ladies :)

Well hey there, beautiful Foreign Room readers. I'm Britt. I am so stoked today to share a little bit about my Husband's and I's favorite places in Seattle. (Especially while Dai + Jess are frolicking around Japan!) We got married almost two years ago, and moved up here with his little group of friends that I like to call the Marine Corps. But you can read more of that boring get-ta-know-ya-stuff on my blog.
Anyway: If you're anything like me - you find yourself overwhelmed when you explore a new place. I have this subconscious pressure to find the "best-of-the-best" and experience ________, just like 'the locals' do. The huge amount of options leaves me feeling unsettled, and sometimes even unsatisfied with my decision making. "Is this the best place for lunch?" + "Should I google good places nearby?" + "What if we miss something suuuuper good?"
Downtown Seattle is not an easy place for us to make travel decisions. Sometimes its taken us half an hour to discuss and decide on the best place for lunch. That's mostly because there are so, so many options! Because of that, Husband and I try to go somewhere new every time we're there. Variety is the spice of life, after all! Perfect for a day of frolicking around downtown, our his + hers picks:
Cherry Street Coffee House (1st Ave & Cherry st) / Storyville Coffee (Post Alley & 1st Ave)
Husband and I love to argue about our favorite coffee shops - especially because there are so many unique ones downtown. He loves the vibe of Cherry street, there are nearly a dozen of them scattered all over the place. Although we adored the one in Belltown, Husband especially loves the original one in Pioneer Square. He recommends ordering a mocha. I'm a fan, however of Storyville Coffee. Their espresso is absolutely to-die-for, and the vibe is incomparable. Sitting atop the Pike's Market entrance, and overlooking all the chaos below (with a coffee in hand) is one of the best experiences ever. Adorned with a fireplace and tons of cushy seating - its the perfect place to sit and chat - or get some work done. Order an Iced Americano.
Piroshky Piroshky (1908 Pikes Place) / Ellenos Yogurt (1500 Pikes Place)
Walking around the market, and looking at all of the fresh produce makes one hungry. Real Hungry. Good news: There are all sorts of tasty treats for you to snag. Husbands choice is the Beef and Onion Piroshky from Piroshky Piroshky. (I prefer their cheddar cheese and garlic roll.) But completely better than Russian pastries in my opinion, is the Yogurt sold at Ellenos. OH, my. Order the Passion fruit, as pictured above. Enough said.
If a snack isn't really going to cut it - there are a million restaurants in the area too. Mod Pizza is one of the coolest pizza joints I've ever sunk my mouth into. Your Made On Demand pizza features whatever you want on it, and usually pops out of their oven in about 6 minutes. Its good, but a bit of a walk to get over to to 6th ave. I love the Chinese place inside Pikes Market. Their Lemon fried chicken (pictured above) is seriously the best thing I've ever eaten. Okay, maybe not ever. The experience of dining in their long restaurant overlooking the streets and waterfront below - unbelievable.
Mod Pizza (1302 6th Avenue) / Pike Place Chinese Cuisine (1533 Pike Pl)
Lion Heart Book Store (1501 Pike Pl) / Pike Place Flower Market (Pike's Market)
IF you are in Pike's Market or planning to go there - both of these should be on your to do list. Husband wants you to hit up his favorite book store in the Market, Lion Heart. You'd think it'd be about the books, but nah, not really. Its all about David. (See above - thanks Kelsey G. from Yelp.) He is possibly one of the most interesting and knowledgeable book store owners ever. He'll recommend a book, quote poetry, or serenade you. How many other shop owners get mentioned by name in online reviews!? Alternatively, my favorite part of the market is going at early morning. At 10 am you can sneak in and see all the lovely flowers being arranged for a long day of selling. Definitely a cool experience to watch these ladies at work.
