Japan Adventures // Tokyo Sky Tree

I realized today that I haven't really talked much about our time in Tokyo or my thoughts about Tokyo itself. I have many random photos taken throughout the city that I think I will put into a post sometime soon. There's no better way to vicariously get a feel for a city than through a collection of photos taken in the streets, right? For now though, I wanted to share our visit to the Tokyo Sky Tree, Tokyo's tallest building that opened in 2012. I now wish that I had gotten a photo of the building itself, but you can view one here to get an idea of what it looks like.
This place is quite the attraction, I must say. We had to wait in a rather long line to purchase tickets and board the elevator to ride to the observation floor, which I believe was around the 350th floor. It is certainly a ways up there!
The view was stunning, to say the least. I loved that you were able to walk around in a circle to get a 360 degree view of Tokyo. The city looks so quiet from all the way up here!
It was also cool to be able to see the river and waterways that flow through Tokyo, as well as the bay. Oh, and that golden bean looking thing between the two buildings? That's the Asahi Beer Hall "Asahi Flame." Kind of funny! It actually reminded me of a gold version of "The Bean" in Chicago's Millennium Park. Do you agree?
There was one area on the observation floor that we could see through glass what was directly below us. Kind of scary, actually! Admittedly, my knees started to shake a bit.
Typical Tokyo. People are always on their phones! Always taking photos, on social media, or playing Candy Crush. In all fairness, I'm sure plenty of people say that about Americans too!
This is my favorite photo from our visit to the Sky Tree. I now wish that I knew these people so I could send them this photo of themselves! I really try to be brave when taking photos of strangers because most of the time they don't even notice me and those photos end up being my favorite, true representation of wherever I happen to be. I like that this girl noticed me just at the last moment and I was able to capture her smile.

We weren't sure if we were going to make it here, but looking back, I am glad that we did. It really gave us a view of Tokyo we wouldn't have otherwise seen, and it is fun to say that we have been.

I'm hoping to share more bits and pieces of Tokyo in the next week or so! It is definitely an interesting and colorful city!
