I love having hobbies and exploring new interests! Aside from blogging, it has been a while since I have adopted a new hobby to do in my free time. I have admired hand lettering and modern calligraphy for a long time, but never really got into it for myself. Recently that has changed though!
I've talked with my friends Britt & Abby several times about hand lettering, and Britt introduced me to the Aquash Pen, which is essentially a brush pen you can fill with ink. As you can see above, it gives your lettering a painterly and water color feel. It is a lot of fun to play around with and test out applying different amounts of pressure when using it. The Aquash Pen definitely takes a bit of practice to get down because you do have less control over your strokes.
In the past week or so, I've been exploring more with brush markers. I like the bold look that they give and how I have more control over my letters. A little secret: I got these brush markers and some blank paper booklets for practicing at a Japanese dollar store! They had a great selection and it's a nice way to inexpensively test out different materials. I highly recommend it!
At this time, I think I prefer the brush markers rather than the Aquash Pen, but I definitely want to keep exploring both methods! I love having something creative that I can do purely for fun, especially since my school work forces me to be creative for a specific purpose. It is nice to use my creativity with no pressure involved, you know?
Anyway, I just thought I'd share a bit about my latest interest with you all since I am pretty excited about it! I hope you are inspired to take up a new hobby for yourself :)
What are your thoughts on hand lettering? Have you tried it? What hobbies do you currently do or want to try? I want to know!
