My Homemade Jewelry Hanger

When I moved into my apartment a year and a half ago, I knew that I needed some way to organize and beautifully display my jewelry. I searched online, but didn't really find anything that I liked, so I started sketching out some ideas. One trip to Home Depot later, I had everything I needed to start building my perfect jewelry hanger.

The most important things to me when dreaming up this design were functionality, visual appeal, and simplicity (I was planning to construct this myself, after all!). I opted for small gold hooks that I could easily hang everything from and a dark, rustic stain for the wood that I knew would pop against my beige walls. I also knew that I needed to make it a pretty big size since I had quite a bit of jewelry I wanted to fill it with.

I might have had everything I needed after a trip to the hardware store, but I didn't exactly have all of the skills to craft together my jewelry hanger. I put everything together and was pretty happy with it, however, when my dad came to visit me soon after, he helped me take it apart and put it back together again more neatly before staining it. I am lucky to have such a handy dad to clean things up a bit for me, but I know that this is a totally doable project for the average gal who knows how to use a drill!

I made this a little over a year ago now, but it is still one of my favorite corners of my room. When I am standing in front of my dresser getting ready each day, it makes it easy to reach for a necklace or bracelet to finish off my outfit. Plus, it just looks pretty hanging there on my wall! It has really become a decorative statement piece and I love getting to tell people that I made it myself.

I did not really approach this project with the intention of making it an official DIY for others to follow, but I still wanted to share it with you all in case it inspires you to create something for yourself! Glad I finally got around to writing this post :)

In case you're wondering, here are the materials you would need to make something like this of your own:
+ Metal mending plates to join each piece of wood
+ Screw in hooks to hold jewelry
+ Wood cut to desired size
+ Wood stain of your choice
+ Electric drill
+ Screws

How do you organize or display your jewelry? Would you make something like this for yourself?
