Blogtember // My Style

style
I'm sure many of you have seen some Blogtember posts (a challenge started by the Brave Love Blog to blog every day in September!) floating around the blogosphere, and while I don't plan on participating in every prompt, there are several of them that have really inspired me to join in! Given that I clearly love fashion and personal style, I am all about Day 6's prompt to share about my style! I'm a day late, but hopefully no one will mind ;)

My style has definitely evolved over the years and I wouldn't say that I hold myself to any particular rules. In high school, I generally wore jeans with a simple top and a cardigan nearly every day. I would occasionally shake things up with a dress and mostly steered clear of skirts because I didn't find them to be too flattering on me. These days, however, I absolutely love skirts and am amazed at how much my feelings towards them have changed! Now, I find them to be one of the most flattering pieces I can add to my wardrobe.

Besides my new found love for skirts, I think that my taste has really been defined since embracing my love for retro/vintage inspired style clothing. It is amazing and classic and I feel my prettiest when I am in an Audrey Hepburn style dress or a fun printed skirt. I just can't help but feel happy and a bit fancy!

Along with that, I have become more comfortable rocking a red lip and have perfected my best winged liner look, which go wonderfully with any style really! I also love a classic looking pair of sunglasses, vintage inspired pumps or wedges, and a fun hat. Give me florals, polka dots, & tulle, and I am a happy camper!

While I would love to dress up in my favorite retro pieces every day, my life as a student and a nanny is a bit more casual! On a daily basis, I usually go for something that is still classic, but toned down more. I love a great pair of skinny jeans (blue & black!), neutral colored tops (grey, white, dark green, black, maroon!), a jacket or cardigan of some sort (jean jackets and military jackets are my jam!), and flats or booties. Most days my makeup is also fairly simple and I keep my accessories minimal. Though I am a huge fan of all things related to vintage fashion, I do actually enjoy this simple, semi-minimal style too, as you can see from some of the photos above!

I actually really enjoy having a wide range of tastes in my personal style and like that I don't feel the need to make myself only be one thing or another. It makes getting dressed every day more interesting (that's one word for it, ha!) and I can keep people guessing :)

What is your personal style like? What do you tend to wear day to day?

Guest Post // Favorite Travel Outfit

Welcome, friends! While I am off in Japan, I have collected a lovely team of bloggers to share a variety of guest posts about travel, fashion, and everything in between! I will be back from my adventuring soon, but in the mean time please enjoy these wonderful ladies :)

Today we have Nicole of Treasure Tromp sharing a bit about travel style! Nicole is an adventurer just like me and has spent a good chunk of time living abroad. I love reading about her latest explorations and tips about life she shares. Enjoy her post about travel style!

Hi Foreign Room readers! I'm Nicole, the lady behind the blog Treasure Tromp.
My blog is about discovering life’s little treasures one adventure at a time. From traveling the world to hiking and camping, I want to make sure that I never miss the beauty of each adventure and encourage you to seek your own treasures as well. In addition to treasure hunting, you can also find posts about organization, blogging tips, and updates to my 30 by 30 list. When I'm not working on my PhD program, I like to pretend that I am a world traveler. Latest adventure? I just returned back to the US after living in South Africa with my fiancĂ©.In the last four years we've done more than our fair share of traveling and have spent a lot of time flying. After traveling to about 15 countries on 5 different continents (!), I've finally figured out my favorite travel outfit while flying (or driving) to a destination:
Favorite Travel Outfit

Maxi Dress // A nice long maxi dress is the best thing to travel in. I once was a fan of leggings and a soft button up shirt, but maxi dresses have won me over. The length makes sure that I won't get cold on the flight but also allows for movement.
Scarf // I get cold in pretty much every situation, so a lightweight scarf is the perfect accessory to put over my dress when I start to get chilly.
Flats // I will never understand how people wear heels while traveling. I like to travel in flats so that I can easily take my shoes off during the flight / not trip down stairs.
Bag // A large bag is a must for me when traveling. I typically carry my laptop and these items when flying so I need a bag that can accommodate all my stuff.

Do you have a favorite outfit to wear when traveling?

Thanks to Jess for letting me take over the blog today! Free feel to come stop by my blog to say hello - can't wait to meet you!

With every changing season, adding a few new things to your wardrobe is a nice treat that makes everything feel fresh. While I wish I had the funds to purchase everything on this list, it is still nice to daydream and think about ways to maybe find similar, less expensive pieces or decide on what to maybe splurge on. As you can see above, I have quite the online-window shopping affair with Modcloth. There is just so much in its depths, it is like the Amazon of clothing. Plus, things from that site typically fit me pretty well!

I have been feeling a bit un-inspired with my wardrobe the past month or two, and I'd really like to change that. I was loving the habit of doing outfit posts every week, but I kind of came to plateau with ideas for pieces I currently own, haven't been loving my body very much lately, and have been busy with other things on the weekends (the only time I really have to shoot outfit photos with Dai). Needless to say, I'd like to change that and maybe treating myself to some fresh items with get my wardrobe wheels rollin' again.

Do you miss my outfit posts? I feel like we had a good thing goin' there for a while with them. They ended up being my most commented on posts every week and it was nice to feel like people actually enjoyed my personal style. Hmm, what a concept!

Any online shopping sites you recommend? Where do you tend to shop most? Would y'all like to see outfit photos back into the rotation here on the blog?

Who's that girl...

Today I have for you one of my most favorite actresses and style icons: Zooey Deshanel
Now, I realize that for some strange reason, there are a lot of Zooey haters out there. They think that her latest image is all about being "quirky" and "different." Though you may find that not all modern women posses her love of vintage and retro style, I happen to love it as well and wish that I would put more effort in tailoring my wardrobe to be something of that nature. Not only do I love similar things as she does, I love that she stays true to her style and is always classy. And that she brings that to the world of celebrities. To me, a real woman is classy and confident, while also being sweet and humble. In my opinion, that is Ms. Zooey.
500 Days of Summer. Need I say more? This is the Zooey I love most. I could go on and on about all the wonderful things besides her about this movie, but I'll spare you. When this movie was coming to theaters, I remember getting so excited every time I saw the preview on TV. And my sister made fun of me because she thought it was going to be a stupid movie. I've decided to bring it with me next time I see her to prove her wrong.
New Girl has become one of my favorite shows on TV these days. After all, it is my theme song... :) (Who's that girl...IT'S JESS!) I love seeing this "quirky" side of the actress and the cast is great. Most of all, I love admiring her character's style. (Also, who else think
s Nick and Jess should just get together? I mean, come on...How could you resist a snarky and sarcastic guy like that?)
Did I mention she sings? It is quite lovely. Can't wait until Christmas so I can break out her Christmas album!
Seeing how pretty bangs could look makes me want to grow my hair out and get some. And maybe even be a dark brunette. I must say though, I do love life as a red head! I have never desired bangs like hers, but now maybe if I grew my hair out...
A pretty good visual of what I would look like with bangs, right? I thought you might enjoy that.

Plus, she is just timelessly beautiful.

And that is all on my rant about Zooey Deshanel.
