Anticipating // Easter tomorrow. It should be a great day!

Number 8

The other day was, you guessed it, Marly's 8th birthday! I originally had grand plans for a nice patio party, but things didn't end up working out that way. We had a lot of fun though with our low key celebration!
I found a boxed cake mix for dogs and whipped up a frosting made from peanut butter, cream cheese, and honey. He and his little doggy cousins sure did love it.
Marly was SUPER excited the entire night and couldn't believe that he was actually allowed on the table. Hey, why not? It's only your birthday once a year!

And then this is what you get when you put three pups in party hats on a dining room table.
Is there anything cuter?

Hope this brightens your week!

A girl's best friend.

This little pup is my world. I don't know what I would do without his wiggling body greeting me each time I come through the front door, or the natural rise and fall of his breathing lulling me to sleep every night as I hold him closely in my arms.

I am in love with these photos. They are the perfect representation of us and our bond. As much as I hate to ever acknowledge it, I know that one day we will part. But I will have these photos (and many others) and the memories that will live inside me forever. Though that is just how life works, it is really too horrible to think about and soft tears are falling down my cheeks as I write this.

But alas, it is not nearly time to say goodbye, so why trouble ourselves with these thoughts? Instead, I will leave you with these photos filled with love and a beautiful Saturday ahead.

Friday Fog

On Friday, my best friend Kaitlin and I spent the afternoon shopping downtown and eating cupcakes. Once we had had our fill of that, we asked each other what was next.
"I want to lay in the sand" were her exact words to me, said half jokingly and half seriously.
Alright, we live in California, so why not? So, I started the car and off we went.
We made the drive through the winding roads and over the mountain that makes you feel like you aren't just minutes from home. We decided to just drive a little ways down the coast, saying aloud all the random thoughts that raced through our minds. We found the perfect place to stop and walked along the sand, stopping to look at driftwood or make jokes of how it was Kaitlin's home and she was showing me around.
The 5pm fog had set in and I had lost all concept of time. It didn't matter how long we had been gone, if anyone was waiting for us, or that we were getting cold. All that mattered was that we finally had the freedom to let go of the stressful week that had been holding on to us so tightly.
We took the long way home, letting Mumford and Sons lead the way between our comfortable silences and hysterical laughter. We looked on in awe at the tall redwood trees lining our way home, and pretended that we were going somewhere much more exciting.

But alas, we pulled back into reality, turned off our dearest Mumford, and decided to continue our journey one day.

Tea Time

Hey all! Just thought I'd take a moment to share with you the lovely little tea set that Dai got me a couple weeks ago. I just love it! I feel so fancy and sophisticated whenever I use it, you know, like i've really got my crap together? And like I can sit down and enjoy a bit of Jane Austen or Vogue? (because I've totally read either of those).

Hope your week is treating you well so far!

Good company.

There's nothing like having someone always ready to take off on an adventure with you. And better yet, having someone to enjoy the natural ebbs and flow of car conversations and silence with.
It's just nice finding a good friend and companion to spend your days with. Especially one that makes sure that you won't be falling off a cliff as you get that perfect picture or one that loves your pup almost as much as you do.
This is that someone to me.

While we were in Yosemite, I insisted that Dai let me take some portraits of him just for fun. I think he's pretty cute ;)

Adventure is near.

I cannot even tell you how thrilled I am that it is finally the weekend. My goodness, this past week has been beyond busy and difficult and just plain horrible. I am so happy that I have finally had a bit of time to sort through these photos from last weekend. Someone, please take me back here!
Because sometimes you need to just state the obvious, I will say this: Yosemite is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-ul.
Fresh air, big trees, and stunning views. What more could you want?
I was delighted to be able to bring Mr. Marly along for this trip. One of his first outings in the mountains I believe. Hopefully we can bring him along to Lake Tahoe this sometime this summer! He is a dog made for adventure.
Unfortunately, now I am back in reality, where tests and work prevail above all else, and adventure is a far away dream saved for my drifting mind as I sit in class or pour over my books at Starbucks at 12am.

I will be free again soon!

It's about the journey.

Hello there! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend as much as I did.
We decided to take a day trip to explore Yosemite National Park. I really love road trips. They are the best.
Though the destination is the main goal of the trip, I am all about the journey. In fact, sometimes the journey can be more memorable than the destination. Though I do like getting wherever we are supposed to be going in a somewhat timely manner, I do not mind stopping along the way to take in a view, shoot some outfit photos, or pick up some local treats.
That's pretty much exactly how I felt about this trip. As we were chattering and driving along a two lane road in the middle of some farm land, we saw a gorgeous field of yellow flowers and quickly made a U-turn. I mean, we had to. How could we pass that up?
Though there was a slightly chilly breeze, I knew Spring was there somewhere underneath, revealing itself in laughter and contentness. We walked further and further in this undoubtedly private land, keeping track of Marly by the occasional bobbing head as he hopped through the tall grasses like a bunny rabbit.
Sweater - Anthropologie // Jeans - Lucky Brand // Boots - Ugg // Necklace - Lucky Brand

To be quite honest, Yosemite was a bit of a bummer. We hand't done much research, we didn't find much to do as a result, and there wasn't any snow. It was absolutely beautiful though, but what I cherish most about that trip is the time we spent in this flower field, listening to the freight trains go by and fighting the urge to roll around in these lush flowers.

This week is kicking my butt. I am over my head in homework, work, and life in general. Where is a good flower field and a blanket to lay on when you need one?

P.S. Have I mentioned how much I absolutely love this sweater? I got it on sale at Anthropologie last month and have never looked back. It is light weight, but just warm enough, AND it has an adorable cream floral tail of sorts. Just fantastic!
